Early winter storm and grooming update

November has come in a with a bang this year--it looks like full-on winter out there, and I even did my first local ski of the season on some neighborhood trails this morning!

I would love to be out on the Woodmoor golf course, grooming the ski trails and getting an early start to our local ski season, but we haven't yet gotten approval from the Country Club at Woodmoor yet to do this. I have been on the phone with the club manager numerous times, and in contact with the head golf greenskeeper, but we all need to remember that the club makes the majority of their money with golf, and they WILL NOT jeopardize possible damage to the golf course for early-season ski trail grooming....

If it continues to snow through today and tomorrow (as some forecasters predict), there is a decent chance that we will be able to groom and open a small ski loop near the Blue-Black trail (and on the Driving range). But we will NOT be able to groom and open the majority of the ski trails just yet, because pre-winter work still needs to be done on the fairways by the club greenskeepers, and all the golf cart signs still have to be removed so that we don't hit and damage them and/or our nonprofit snowmobiles, or they cause an injury to any skiers.

Stay tuned as we see what this current storm does, and if we can open with a limited ski trail, we will! This would be only the second time we will have opened before Thanksgiving (and the last time was our record-setting winter with over 60 days of local skiing in 2015-'16), so regardless, this early winter storm bodes well for the upcoming ski season, and on the N. facing portions of the course, much of the snow we are currently receiving will probably not melt out completely until spring.

Thanks for your understanding and patience--I hope everyone can get out to a park or open space to do some local skiing, and please understand that we will open as soon as we can, but must abide by the Country Club at Woodmoor's guidance, or risk losing access to this great local amenity for good. Think snow!
