A comparison…
Our local trails are still closed, so I headed up to ski at Breckenridge today. They just received over 2 feet of snow, but these are what their trails looked like today: Although Woodmoor doesn’t get as much snow or have the colder temperatures of the mountain resorts, our ski trail grooming, especially early season, is far superior thanks to our equipment and awesome volunteers!

Temporarily closed, pending more snow.
Although we did pick up 1/2" of new snow after lunch, the warmer temperatures today melted out several of the cart path crossings, and some other spots on the trail. Unfortunately, too much has melted out for us to safely re-groom the ski trails without risking damage to the Country Club's golf course turf, forcing us to temporarily close the ski trails until we get more snow. The current long-term forecast is calling for temperatures in the 50s, so even more of the snow wil

Open Saturday, likely the last day until more snow arrives…
I skied all three of our trails this evening to assess conditions. Although our classic tracks have melted out in many sections, all three trails are still very skiable--and skate skied great this afternoon. There are a few patches of grass starting to appear in spots in the skate lane, and some dirt/gravel in others (please see photos), but they were easy to avoid. All three trails will remain open for Saturday, but best skiing will be earlier, as tomorrow is supposed to

Skate lane re-groom for Friday
Today's opening day had some of the best first-day conditions we've had in several years, and at least a dozen skiers were taking advantage of it before 10am when I had to leave! The skate lane was 'firm enough' for good skating, and we even had classic tracks set on all 3 loops, although they were thin in a few spots. We lucked out with a decent amount of snow with a good moisture level, and most importantly, no wind that seems to accompany most of our bigger snow-storms.

Groomed and tracked!
Our groomers are just finishing up, but all 3 of the previously mentioned trails are groomed and tracked. As this is our opening day, a few gravel spots or cart paths are unprotected on these loops, but are in flat spots where ski speed should be minimal. 95+% of the open groomed trails have grass underneath. (Not the case for our blue or black loops, which are closed due to this.)

3 trails opening tomorrow morning!
We collectively had 4 volunteers put in over 19 hours of trailwork today, and repeatedly rolled all 5 of our ski trails. Three of them will be final-groomed (hopefully even classic tracks!) tomorrow morning and open to the public for skiing: the Green Loop, Green-blue loop, and the Blue-black connector trails. The other two need more snow and preparation before they can be safely skied. Season pass holders are welcome to hop on the trails a bit after 8am (we may still be gr

Actively rolling trails for Thursday opening
Woodmoor has picked up 4 to 5 inches of snow, and we have been cleared to start rolling and grooming trails. We are actively packing down all five trails now, and will continue to do so as it continues to snow—which could be through tonight. We hope to have at least 2 to 3 trails open for skiing tomorrow, but likely will not have the black or blue loops open in their entirety due to the fact that there is no protective carpet underneath the ski trails in several dangerous dow

Hoping to roll/groom trails today, open Thursday…
We are actively monitoring the snowfall, and if enough falls to give us the ‘green light’ to start grooming ski trails, we’ll do so! Given the long-term forecast, if we can open, it would likely be for just a few days until we get more snow, as the predicted temperatures would cause some sections to melt out, but give us a start on the ski trail snow base on the other trails. More to come…

Rental shop move in, more snow later this week?
Although we got a little bit of snow out of this last storm, we will need more (typically 4-6+ inches) for the first trail grooming of the season to ensure there’s no damage to the golf course underneath. There’s a chance for more snow later this week, and if we continue to get more snow and colder temperatures, we’ll be able to open for the season soon. We will also be moving all of our rental equipment into the country club’s golf pro-shop later this week—much later than

Next chance for snow?
Well, that last storm was a complete bust, not only for us locally, but for all of our nearby mountain ski resorts. Any skiing within several hours of us is all being done on mostly man-made snow--and the terrain is extremely limited. Breckenridge has just under a 1/4 mile ski loop groomed, and is the only Nordic area I know of that is open (hardly worth the drive or price, IMO). Some back-country skiing can be found in a few places above 10,000 feet, but rock skis are st

Winter weather finally coming to CO
Colorado’s unseasonably warm, dry fall is finally predicted to change with the inbound weather starting this Sunday/Monday, and hopefully continuing through Thanksgiving. Even the mountain ski resorts are currently hurting for snow—any skiing happening right now is likely on made-made snow! It even looks like our local ski trails may see a bit of snow later next week, although the predicted temperatures and warm ground make it extremely unlikely that we'll be able to do any g

Extended season pass ‘snow guarantee’ now to end of Nov
It’s come to our attention that our recent advertisement in our local community newspaper was changed—the OCN editors mistakenly ‘extended’ our snow guarantee to the end of November, versus the original 31 October deadline. Given this, we have decided to extended our snow guarantee to comply with the erroneous ad. The reason we have the deadline is to encourage the early purchase of season passes so that our nonprofit organization has a better idea of our seasonal budget, thu

Trick or Treat!
As a Halloween ‘treat’, our pre-season ski orders have arrived, and we’ve mailed out the next batch of season passes. For those of you current season pass holders who placed an order with us, I will follow up with each of you individually to get you your new gear. The ‘trick’ is that Halloween (31 Oct) is the LAST day to purchase your season passes with the snow guarantee, or use any season pass discount codes. We were skiing last winter 8 days from now. Although that was uns

Only 11 days left for snow-guaranteed season passes!
Another batch of season passes were mailed out this weekend while snow was coming down in the nearby mountains. There are less than two weeks left to purchase your passes with our snow guarantee, and for returning pass holders, to use their discount code. Save yourself the hassle of I-70 traffic and ski local when the weather permits! Passes purchased after 31 October will be full price, and won’t include our snow guarantee. We prepped the golf course recently to make sure i
